Colorado Hot Springs Road Trip

From huge resort pools to small riverside soaks, a guide to warming up the Colorado way.

The big names

Glenwood Springs, off I-70, is home to a large historic hot springs pool and several smaller soaking spots. It makes a great stop on any trip to the western half of the state.

Pagosa Springs in the southwest has terraced soaking pools along the San Juan River, and Ouray has a public hot springs pool tucked under the surrounding peaks.

Central Colorado

The Arkansas River valley around Buena Vista and Salida is full of hot springs with views of the Collegiate Peaks. It pairs well with a day of rafting or hiking.

How to plan it

Many hot springs now take reservations, especially on weekends and holidays. Check each one before you drive, and remember that hours change seasonally.

Winter is the classic hot springs season. There is nothing quite like soaking in steaming water while snow falls around you.
